Arts Planning and Accessibility
Course Description
Participants will develop shared language around disability justice (using the Mia Mingus definition) with a brief self-examination of some long held ableist belief systems that show up in schools and classrooms and even ourselves. Educators will participate in activities that offer multiple access points for all learners and have time to plan for adapting their own practices and structure to allow for a more inclusive experience. Using the tenets of Universal Design for Learning, we will examine and adapt a lesson framework that creates space for all students in an inclusion classroom to succeed.
This professional learning opportunity is presented through a collaborative effort between the Louisiana Division of the Arts and KID smART, with funding provided by the National Endowment for the Arts. To learn more about KID smART, visit www.kidsmart.org.
